The title sounds familiar and the cover looks mighty familiar, right?.. May remember a lil something that was kinda like a big deal in the late 90's (and still today) by a young lady by the name of Lauryn Hill called, 'The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill'. Teyana jacked it for this mixtape, or as they like to call it in the entertainment biz, "Borrowed"...
So, I'm like 3 songs in, listening to this like.. "Why tf would this girl use the likeness of Lauryn's Grammy award winning album when her talent is nowhere near Lauryn's level?!"I thought maybe Wyclef's lil talk on that interlude pumped her head or something. But then I heard "Lauryns Interlude". (I know. It comes before Wy's interlude. Blame it on the shuffle.) Teyana sang a tiny bit of "Doo Wop". No Lauryn, but she has some vocals going on. Much more than I gave her credit for; that's for sure. And she rhymes, too. I guess that's where the inspiration for that move (title and cover) came from. Or maybe Lauryn's her idol or something. I mean..Lauryn's everyone's idol ain't she?! (If not, she should be.)
Other than scratching my head over her choice of title and cover art work for this mixtape, this piece is pretty good. Fab and Jada, Cocaine Honey, Travis Porter, and Wale all join her on this mixtape. And I wonder where her G.O.O.D Music homies at? (Coulda sworn Kanye signing her was true...Or did I dream that one up?..) And you can hear the Chris Brown inspiration in a few of the songs, vocally. (We all know how I love Breezy.) Overall, I like Teyana's style.
Out of 15, I like a good 9 or 10. "You know", "DUI", "8th Wonder" and "Bad Boy" tops my list, though. Click the link below to check it out.
